Some of My Tunes

Bar People by Kenny Staruk
My wife and I we get around and we like to have some fun.
We love to meet new people, just about anyone.
We see a lot of people everywhere we go.
Some of them we’ve met before and some we’ve never known.
Sometimes we get a hankering to step into a crowd.
Get a little rowdy, and be a little loud.
And when we want to see some folks with whom we can commune.
We head on down and grab a round at a neighborhood Saloon.

Chorus
Bar people are our people.
We love the way we all just get along.
And brew and spirit drinkers are deep and free thinkers.
Always in the mood to sing a song.

Well there’s one thing I can tell you that’ll always be the same.
When you walk into a bar it’s as if they know your name.
You’ll seldom meet a stranger, but if you ever do.
They will not be a stranger long when they set a spell with you.

Chorus

Well we all have this in common. We’re all a bit off key.
We all just like to catch a buzz, and let our thoughts run free.
So raise your glass and make a toast and speak it loud and strong.
Grab your cup and belly up and help me sing this song.

Help me out now.

Bar people are our people.
We love the way we all just get along.
And brew and spirit drinkers are deep and free thinkers.
Always in the mood to sing a song.
Yeah, we’re always in the mood to sing a song.

See them, feel them, in your mind, and all your dreams come true.
Downstream by Kenny Staruk
When I was a young boy,
there were stories told to me.
Weird and crazy fantasies,
that in my mind I’d see.

While Jack jumped over a candlestick,
A cow jumped over the moon.
Little Bo Peep she lost some sheep,
and they came back none too soon.

Mary grew her Garden,
and Mr. Cole was King.
Then a crazy egg fell off the wall,
and scrambled everything.

I wondered if Mother Hubbard’s dog, ever got his bones,
or if there is a way,
to make a soup with only Stones.

While Georgie Porgie kissed the girls,
Miss Muffet ate her Curds.
Those stories weren’t that interesting,
until I heard these words.

Row row row your boat,
gently down the stream,
merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
life is but a dream.

The first time I heard row your boat.
It didn’t mean that much to me,
but now I understand,
that silly song can set you free.

If you paddle Upstream through your life, you’ll work yourself to death.
Just turn around and float downstream,
and you will catch your breath.

Just have confidence and know,
that life is meant for you.
See them feel them in your mind,
and all your dreams come true.

So, row row row your boat gently down the stream merrily merrily merrily merrily,
life is but a dream.

What falling in love feels like sometimes.

It’s Just Love by Kenny Staruk
What’s that, sneaking up on me?
What’s that, never lets me be?
What’s that, breathing down my neck?
Howlin’ down and making me a nervous wreck.

What’s that, takes away my breath?
What’s that, got me scared to death?
What’s that, pounding in my chest?
Keeps me up at night so I can’t get no rest.

Won’t somebody tell me, tell me please?
What’s that got me shakin’ at the knees?
What’s that got me dreamin’ dreams of you?
And what am I going to do?

It’s just love, got you mystified.
It’s just love, and it’s messin, with your mind.
It’s just love, movin’ like the tide.
So buckle up your sea tbelt and enjoy the ride. Yeah.

Instrumental

Won’t somebody tell me, tell me please?
What’s that got me shakin’ at the knees?
What’s that got me dreamin’ dreams of you?
And what am I going to do?

It’s just love, got you mystified.
It’s just love, and it’s messin’ with your mind.

Snowman Blues
Snowman Blues by Kenny Staruk

Baby you’ve mistreated me for the last time.
Baby you’re so cold I need a blanket for my mind.

Chorus
Baby you’re cold, cold is the fallen snow.
Baby you’re cold, cold as the falling snow.
Even Frosty the Snowman, ain’t got a thing on you.

On our wedding day, I was happy as a child.
I finally got you to marry me, and all I could do was smile.
The preacher asked if you take me. I could hear the Wedding Bells.
You just winked at the preacher and said “I guess so, what the hell”.

Chorus

I took you out to dinner, then we went back home.
I made sweet love to you with my body and my soul.
And when we were finished, my bones were aching. You looked me straight in the eye and said “baby I was fakin'”.

Chorus

Instrumental

The final straw came, just a few days ago.
I bought some pretty flowers, and I brought ’em home to you.
I opened the door. I couldn’t believe my eyes. You were standing in the arms of another man and said to me, “Baby! Why do you look so surprised?”.

Chorus

Even Frosty the Snowman, ain’t got one damn thing on you.

Song I wrote about the Crazy Base Camp Campground. I might I have had a slight buzz on when I sang this.

Base Camp by Ken Staruk
It’s a beautiful mountain evening, on a beautiful Summer’s Day.
Folks begin to gather around, some to hear me play.
Victor’s lit the fire. Tommy’s lit the grill.

Randy’s brought a great big jar of pickles better still.
We’ve got ribs and we’ve got chicken, we’ve got burgers and we’ve got dogs,
and Norman just strolled into camp with an armload of Kabobs.

Chorus
Right here at Base Camp, a party you don’t want to miss.

We’re up here at Base Camp, and life don’t get better than this.

Susanne’s sipping chardonnay. Jen is drinking beer.
Carry’s sloshing vodka and Debbie’s way out there.
Everyone is happy and everything is good,

and I think I just heard Victor yell, more wood, more wood, more wood.

Chorus

This morning we played horseshoes, while shipping our red beer.
There’s lots of friends just hanging around and lots to do up here.
Mark took the kids out fishing. The girls went for a hike.
And I walked to the Pickle Liquor store for more of what I like.

Chorus

Well we’re all warm and cozy, sitting by the fire.
I can see the moon tonight, rising higher and higher.
But this crowd is getting antsy, and it’s time for me to play.
So let’s sing some songs as the night wears on and end this perfect day.

Right here at base camp. A party you don’t want to miss.
We’re up here at Base Camp,
and life don’t get better than this.
Up here at Base Camp, life don’t get better than this.

For those folks living on our streets.

America, I am Your Child by Kenny Staruk

I’ve been livin’ on the street for so long,
and my heart has gotten cold, and I’m quickly growing old.
And I ask myself from way down in here how,
could it get this awful bad, could I be this awful sad.

Circumstances overwhelmed me more and more each day,
I guess I couldn’t handle it, so I ran away.
Still I had a plan, I’d find a place to stay,
but intoxication in my veins helped me lose my way.

America, I am your child,
and I’m crying, I’m crying, I’crying,
please help me before I’m gone.

Rummage through a Goodwill box.
Find a hat some shoes some socks.
Ask a passerby who thinks,
the change is for another drink.
A park bench makes an awful bed.
There’s no place to rest my head.
A shopping cart holds all I own,
and I don’t want to die alone.

America, I am your child
and I’m crying, I’m dying, I’crying,
please help me before I’m gone.

I really want to help myself,
but the mountain seems too steep,
and going down is easier
when you haven’t had much sleep.
I just need a push, a shove,
just a helping hand.
I want to join the rest of you
in what seems a foreign land.

America, I am your child
and I’m crying, I’m dying, I’crying,
please help me before I’m gone.

America! These are your children,
and they’re looking for you to take them by the hand.
Give them! Give them the tools they need.
To fix this broken life. To Make it through the night.

America, I am your child
and I’m crying, I’m dyin,g I’dying,
please help me before I’m gone.

Remembering Thanksgivings

It’s Thanksgiving by Kenny Staruk
It’s Thanksgiving, on this beautiful Autumn morn.
It’s Thanksgiving, Mama’s cooking up a storm.
The turkeys in the oven. I’m with family and friends.
I just love when it’s Thanksgiving again.

It’s November, leaves have fallen off the trees.
Yes it’s Autumn. There’s those busy birds and bees.
All are getting ready for the coming winter snows,
As the warm anticipation grows.

Frost is on the pumpkin. Snow is gently falling.
Folks are coming to the house. The dinner bell is calling.
Steam Rising off the table as the dinner fair is spread.
Pour a little wine and pass the loaf of bread

(Instrumental break)

It’s Thanksgiving. It’s tradition and it’s old.
It’s Thanksgiving. Many stories will be told.
Warm and cozy memories of good times that have been.
I’m so glad that it’s Thanksgiving again.
I’m so glad that it’s Thanksgiving again.
I’m so glad that it’s Thanksgiving again.

Oh No! The electricity is off again!

Power Outage by Kenny Staruk

Chorus
Hello, Mr Electric company man.
Hello, Mr Electric Company man.
I’ve got a power outage here and I’m calling just as fast as I can.

My baby and me we were hanging out, cozy and warm.
There is a bit of a hurricane, but we’re riding out the storm.
Lights were blinking, I thought it was my eyes.
Then outside my window looked like the 4th of july.
Popping and a buzzing and sparks a flyin’.
It was a Wonder to behold. I swear that I aint lying.

Chorus
Hello, Mr Electric company man.
Hello, Mr Electric Company man.
I’ve got a power outage here and I’m calling just as fast as I can.

The lights were flickering then they finally went out.
The dog began a barkin’ and my wife began to shout.
I tried to find the answer, there’s nothing I can do.
My wits are at an end, so I’m leaving it up to you.

Tell me you can fix this, say you’ve got a plan.

I know that you can do it, you’re the Electric Company Man.

Chorus

Things have quieted down now and my wife has gone to bed.
The house is dark and quiet, but there’s one thing that I dread.
If the power doesn’t come back on before the breaking day.
All that social media, will quietly slip away.

The cell phone needs a charge so it can operate.
Please fix that blown Transformer, before it is too late.

Chorus
Hello, Mr Electric company man.
Hello, Mr Electric Company man.
I’ve got a power outage here
I’ve got a power outage here
I’ve got a power outage here and I’m calling just as fast as I can.

I wrote this song for my wonderful wife

Again, My Friend by Kenny Staruk
I’ve been running down this road so long and my tires are worn and I feel like going home, Again.
Then I look around, and I see you and realize I’m already home, My Friend.

Seems like yesterday we were talking, we were wondering what to do, Again.
And now it’s been a hundred million miles and I’m still hanging around with you, My Friend.

From Denver to Stockholm we’ll travel back and forth across this world, Again.
But right now I just want to hold you close before the warming of the fire, My Friend.

When I’m tired I’ll crawl to bed turn off the light and lay me down to sleep, Again.
And I’ll listen for you breathing soft and deep and lying right there by my side, My Friend.

Instrumental

I’m a walking with you, deja vu. We’re on the beach we’re kicking through the waves, Again.
And you find a time-worn piece of heart-shaped glass and press it gently to my hand, My Friend.

We’ll be sitting on the sand dune, by the bay, watching the sun sink to the sea, Again.
And I think how many times that you and I have seen the setting of the sun, My Friend.

Well, eons down the road I am sure that I’ll be passing through this world, Again.
And it really would be cool if I had you along with me to do it all again, My Friend.

I’ve got some crazy friends

Still Wild and Rowdy by Ken Staruk

Well I have lots of friends and we’re all about having fun.
We love to party hardy until the party’s done.
We partied when we were younger and we partied as we grew.
We partied like wild animals with everyone we knew.

Work hard play hard is our Battle Cry.
And we’ll probably be partying, until the day we die.
As friends fall by the wayside the rest will carry on.
We’ll make a toast and say farewell and love them though they’re gone.

Chorus
I and I know that all Hanks rowdy friends have gone and settled down.
And although my mind’s now getting a little cloudy.
I’ve got lots of friends myself who love to paint the town.
All my rowdy friends are still wild and rowdy.

Well, breathing and partying both have to be done.
One will keep you upright and the others just for fun.
You can’t be all that serious, it’s not good for your heart.
So lighten up and laugh a bit and let the good times start.
And I’d like to say to all my friends here’s mud in your eye.
And we’ll probably be partying until the day we die.
And I hope that all my friends will party long after I’m gone.
And raise their glass and toast to me and maybe sing this song.

Chorus
And I know that all Hanks rowdy friends have gone and settled down.
And although my mind’s now getting a little cloudy.
I’ve got lots of friends myself who love to paint the town.
All my rowdy friends are still wild and rowdy.

Yeah, I’ve got lots of friends myself who love to paint the town.
All my rowdy friends are still wild and rowdy.
All my rowdy friends are still wild and rowdy.
All my rowdy friends are still wild and rowdy.
